"Chikkar," a Dareechey Films production, symbolises the Punjabi word for mud, "Keechar," and examines the voices that emerge, those that are suppressed, and the stillness that exists between.

Teaser Review of Zaheer Uddin's upcoming feature "Chikkar"

Today saw the completely understated release of the teaser for Zaheer Uddin's upcoming feature, "Chikkar." Amidst a group of males, Faryal Mehmood boldly dances at the beginning. The last teaser features a mix of government buildings, dark rooms, lengthy halls, and open fields, nearly all of which have people crossing them intently.

Among the many well-known faces are Adnan Shah Tipu, Ushna Shah, Saleem Meiraj, and Usman Mukhtar. There's also Usama Javaid Haider, who was amazing in this year's horror short "Gulabo Rani."

The production firm, Dareechey Films, characterises 'Chikkar' as constituting 'those who raise their voices, those who repress them, and those who are silent'. For mud, or "Keechar" (in Urdu), the name "Chikkar" originates in the Punjabi language. It is an unmistakable clue that points to the muck from whence all humans originate and eventually return. It's also a tribute to those of us who, like mud, are crushed by society's weight.

The teaser has a few clues on its subject matter, but it is largely dialogue-free. On a police officer's laptop, a video of a mother having fun with her kid appears. An SSP named Sarmad Zaman, played by Usman Mukhtar, is shown leaving a room designated as the "Ladies Sector." Covered by a sheet, the girl's bloody corpse lies inside an ambulance. Anguished, a man sitting at a desk begs, "Mujhay Bacha Lo Sahab!" in the film's closing scene. (Please, save me!).

Regarding the events that the movie is based on, nothing explicit is said. However, since violence against people occurs so frequently in Pakistan on a daily basis, this is not really a big deal. Concerning the title of the movie, what do the "8 Days" mean? The only way to find out is to visit the theatre.

Dec. 22, 2023, is when Chikkar will open in theatres.
