The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) continued 13th Barracuda Exercise with major operational demonstrations on second day, In this year the drills focused on search and rescue operations, oil spill containment, and maritime environmental protection along the Karachi coastline.
According to PMSA spokesperson Lieutenant Commander Dawood, the second day of exercise included extensive land phase activities, showcasing how rescue teams respond to emergencies in the sea. Helicopters conducted mid sea rescue operations, airlifting simulated victims to safety, while vessels and boats executed coordinated support drills.
A major highpoint of the day was demonstration on managing coastal oil spills, where teams displayed with modern techniques to prevent environmental damage. Officials recalled a severe maritime accident 22 years ago, after which the coastal water color had changed, impacts that still continue. PMSA and the Pakistan Navy have since applied multiple successful environmental protection measures.
The 13th Barracuda Exercise has attracted 39 delegates from 22 countries, counting representatives from Turkey, Iran, and other nations. International observers acclaimed the professional skills and preparedness of Pakistani maritime personnel.
A land phase exhibition was also organized, including stalls from various marine sector institutions. Culture Department showcased artwork, handicrafts, and tourism sites, drawing vital attention from visiting delegates.
The Barracuda Exercise, continue until December 11, is designed to increase marine environmental protection, reinforce regional cooperation, and progress operational readiness for oil spill and maritime rescue incidents.
