Sindh’s 1122 Incubator Ambulance Service is revolution in public healthcare in Sindh.

Karachi: Tariq Masaud Aliani

Some stories don’t crack the news, they make history. Every day a small red-and-white ambulance traverses Karachi’s congested streets or the narrow back roads of interior Sindh. All inside, not panic, but purpose. A baby, tiny on scales barely updated from decades ago, lying safely in an incubator with trained paramedics keeping close tabs on each heartbeat.

That is what the Sindh Integrated Emergency & Health Services (SIEHS–1122) has made a reality, a free, round-the-clock emergency lifeline to ensure that every infant regardless of age is given as fair as possible a chance at life.

Brig. (R) Tarique Quadir Lakhiar, The Man of the Mission

Leading that charge is Brig. (R) Tarique Quadir Lakhiar, a former military officer who has literally marched through Sindh to remake the state’s emergency management system.

Under his leadership, SIEHS–1122 has extended from Karachi to Kashmore and established specialized fleets, incubator ambulances, boat ambulances, advanced life support units capable of handling critical patients during transportation.

“These ambulances are not just vehicles, they are really incubators”, says Agha Noman Ahmed, Media and Communications at SIEHS–1122.

“They’re MASH units, rolling ICUs with 29 pieces of high-tech medical gear that stabilize even the most fragile preemies. And the best part? The service is completely free.”

A Lifeline of Hope, Free, Accessible & Kind

In a nation where life-saving neonatal care is often out of reach, the word “free” means everything. For parents thrumming through sleepless nights in an urgent effort to save a premature baby, dialing 1122 is more than an emergency call, it’s a lifeline of hope.

Thanks to Brig. Lakhiar’s vision. SIEHS–1122 is now an example of efficiency, compassion and contemporary governance! The system runs with military precision, but pulses with a mother’s heart.

As Brig. Lakhiar once said:

“Government care like a mother, instantly and empathetically.”

And it is what we do at SIEHS–1122 — care, save and serve the people of Sindh every single day. For here, giving one more newborn a chance isn’t just an obligation — it is a promise kept.
