Space Shuttle Endeavour’s Solid Rocket Motors Arrive at California
Two enormous solid rocket motors (SRMs) arrived at the California Science Center on a Wednesday, eleven years after the legendary Space Shuttle Endeavour set out on its unforgettable 12-mile ride through the streets of Los Angeles. From their storage location at the Mojave Air and Space Port, these SRMs had made an incredible journey. Cheering and screaming, "Shuttle! During the landing ceremony, a euphoric crowd of kids, neighbors, and enthusiastic visitors gathered along the streets of Inglewood, California, cheering and screaming "Shuttle! Shuttle!" When everything is done, the shuttle will be on display in the position for liftoff, flanked by two solid rocket boosters (SRBs), two massive solid rocket motors (SRMs), each measuring an incredible 116 feet in length, and a sizable 65,000-pound external fuel tank.
They will be on exhibit at the center's grounds for the following few weeks before being transferred to the future Air and Space Center. Endeavor is scheduled to move to the new structure in early 2024, although it will remain on public display until the end of the year. The 200,000-square-foot Air and Space Center must be completed with 0 million, so the California Science Center Foundation is aggressively working to raise that amount.
Surprisingly, since the groundbreaking ceremony in the spring of 2022, they have already raised 0 million, with a goal completion date of 2025. Although he recognized the enormous effort yet ahead, which would involve setting up the shuttle in its liftoff configuration and finishing the surrounding construction, he said that this moment marks a significant advancement.
