Chairman of the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) Abdul Sami Khan, said the supply of petrol is being interrupted and dealers are not receiving fuel according to their sales volumes. He claimed that statements from OGRA and federal minister regarding available fuel reserves do not reflect ground realities.
According to Khan, any disruption in fuel availability at fueling stations could create serious public inconvenience and may even lead to conflicts at petrol pumps if the situation worsens.
Dealers have also warned that they may be forced to shut down petrol pumps across country if supply situation does not improve.
Khan further stated that the delay of Iranian petrol and diesel supplies has increased pressure on oil marketing companies, while the dealers are also opposing the implementation of a quota system for fuel distribution.
He insisted the government to provide relief to the public by immediately reducing petroleum levy and other taxes on fuel.
Dealers also said they have received warnings that government is considering shifting to a weekly fuel price adjustment mechanism. Meanwhile, a request has been made to the IG Sindh to provide security to petrol pumps in case situation leads to unrest.
